Active shooter at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado

Police and other emergency services are responding to an active shooter at STEM School Highland Ranch near Denver, local officials say. At least two people, possibly more, have been shot.

The incident began just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday when officers were called for an active shooter at the charter school in Highlands Ranch, a community near Denver. Only few details were immediately available.

“Unstable situation, shots fired at STEM school at Ridgeline and Plaza. Avoid area,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in an alert on Twitter. It said at least 2 people are believed to be injured, but unconfirmed reports said there may be other injuries.

A large number of emergency services have been called to the scene while officers work to secure the scene. The status of the suspect is not yet known, nor are details about the circumstances of the shooting.

The Douglas County School District is on lockdown.
