Student, 16, is arrested for posting racist videos of him pretending to shoot black people with guns

A 16-year-old student at a South Carolina Catholic school has been arrested for posting racist videos of himself threatening to 'shoot up' his high school.

Robert Loia, the principal of Cardinal Newman School in Columbia said the student was expelled in July after school officials discovered multiple 'racist' videos that showed him 'pretending to shoot at black people'.

In one video, the student used real guns to shoot a box of Jordan shoes, saying he 'hated black people' and that 'they are stinky'.

The teenager also used the N-word in the videos.

The teenager also used the N-word in the videos. School officials were notified about the videos in mid-July. The student is seen walking over to the box after shooting it

According to Loia, the first video surfaced on July 13 when school officials were contacted by a parent of a student who was included on a group text message that contained 'threatening racist videos'.

Loia said they immediately reported the videos to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. 

'Law enforcement immediately began an investigation into whether the racist videos that evening constituted a criminal act and determined they did not,' Loia said in a letter to students and parents. 

Investigations from the police and the school continued. Two days later, on July 15, school officials met with the teen's parents and advised them that their son would be expelled.

Officials also told the parents in-person and via a letter that the teenager was 'banned form school property'.

Loia said he and his team met with the parents of students who received the videos and by July 17, one of those parents told officials that she found another video on her child's iPad.

In that video, the student says he is going to 'shoot up' the school. The student allegedly sent a similar text message to another student making the same threat.

Officials contacted police again and the teen was arrested.

Authorities also said there were other videos that the student sent to other classmates that showed him shooting a long gun, according to WYFF. 

Other clips appeared to show the student shooting an semi-automatic rifle and a shotgun.

Authorities charged the teen with making student threats. He was taken to the juvenile wing of Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on July 17.
