Why you're seeing a lot more of R-Truth on WWE TV

Updated: Jul 8, 2019

R-Truth and the 24/7 Championship were made for each other. Ron Killings has been killing it on WWE lately and there might be a big reason as to why.

The initial reaction when legendary Hall of Famer Mick Foley introduced the 24/7 Title was groans and moans. Besides the terrible title design, the idea of it sounded ridiculous. Fast forward a few weeks and the title still looks awful, the idea is ridiculous, but it's in the silly nature of the title where some of the most entertaining segments have derived. Most of that is because of R-Truth.

R-Truth (real name Ron Killings) has been a permanent fixture with WWE going on almost 20 years. His career during that time has had its ups and downs as one could expect, but now he's one of the most beloved characters on WWE programming. It took embracing his humorous side, a seven-second dance break and a boss who absolutely loves his antics to get Killings the amount of airtime he's been seeing.

Vince McMahon is a big fan of Killings and he appreciates the fact that Killings is usually up to do anything. Not only does Killings agree to most of the ideas floated his way but he embraces them and makes them must-see segments.

Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co spoke with a source who explained McMahon's admiration of Killings:

"Vince loves Ron. Everyone loves Ron but Vince really loves the guy because he is up for everything. Sometimes Vince can tell when someone is not into what they are doing because it's silly or whatever. You never see that with Ron and Vince loves that. I think Ron will have a job for life here if he wants it."

The 24/7 Championship is a great example of that. Killings has found his way into some hysterical situations as he and Carmella try to escape the lot of wrestlers chasing him down to win the title. So far the WWE's use of social media to highlight the title changes has been a brilliant move that's been paying off.

Most recently Killings pinned Drake Maverick at his own wedding to gain the title back. It has been viewed over 3.4 million times with past WWE 24/7 title changes also drawing significant numbers.

Because of his willingness to do anything, there seems to be a lot more of these segments focused on R-Truth and the 24/7 Championship coming in the near future. And the beauty of all this is that Killings absolutely deserves all of this attention and success. It just goes to prove that life doesn't have to be taken so seriously to find happiness.
