White teens pointing guns at Hixson park, police investigating

Updated: Aug 8, 2019

Chattanooga Police say they are investigating after a photo showing what appears to be two teenagers pointing guns at a park in Hixson went viral on social media over the weekend.

The incident happened Sunday evening at Greenway Farms in Hixson.

The photo, shared thousands of times on Facebook, shows three boys, two of them holding and pointing guns. The boy in the center appears to be shouting.

The woman who took the picture, Emily Campbell, took the photo and granted NewsChannel 9 permission to use it. NewsChannel 9 has covered the faces of those depicted in the photo because we believe they could be minors, and we don't have their identities confirmed.

Campbell says she took the photo from the car that the boys were approaching Sunday afternoon. She says the teens were fighting, and that's when two of them pulled out guns. Campbell says the teenage boy on the right in the photo hit her boyfriend, and her boyfriend hit back. But she says no one was seriously hurt.

"I never thought a day at the park would turn into the most terrifying moment of my life," Campbell said.

Video also exists of the incident. Because it features unidentified minors, NewsChannel 9 is working on blurring the faces of those in the video, and once that is complete, we will attach that video to this story.

Chattanooga Police spokeswoman Elisa Myzal tells NewsChannel 9 that officers are following up on information they've gathered that could help identify who is in the photo.
