In what seems to be an attempt to publicly distance himself from his unrepentant racism, Donald Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to comment on ASAP Rocky's assault charge in Sweden.
In a series of tweets, the president hypocritically accused Sweden of letting "our African American Community down in the United States," and expressed disappointment with the Swedish PM, Stefan Löfven, for failing to act on ASAP Rocky's behalf. "Treat Americans fairly! #FreeRocky," he wrote.
In response to the rapper's detainment, a host of celebrities, including Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, pushed the president to use diplomatic channels to help ASAP's case.
While many believe Rocky's arrest is unjust, particularly since he maintains that he acted in self-defense, the president's involvement has spotlighted his ignorance yet again.
“I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky, but I can tell you he has tremendous support from the African-American community,” Trump said during a press conference from the Oval Office. “When I say African American, I think I can really say from everybody in this country, because we’re all one.”
As Trevor Noah aptly pointed out: “That’s right folks. We’re all one and anyone who doesn’t agree with that can go back to their shithole countries.”
On Thursday, ASAP was charged with assaultin Sweden and will remain in detention until a trial, which is expected to begin as early as Tuesday.
